New York Fashion Week: Prabal Gurung Ready-to-Wear Spring 2019 collection

It's hard not to notice that the past few collections of Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung tend to go back to the couturier’s roots, bridging the gap between the two cultures: the western and that of the Tharu people, the largest ethnic group in the Terai.

The new Prabal Gurung Ready-to-Wear Spring 2019 collection abounded in flamboyant colors and the color-blocking technique, which set off the sportswear ease of most looks in both men’s and women’s lines.

Hourglass-like dresses complemented by loose lacing, cuts decorated with metal chains, sequins and fringe are paired with massive necklaces, resembling climbing equipment for conquering Everest, and oversize windbreakers—a fairly new experiment, but in a traditionally feminine interpretation of the 39-year-old maestro with graphic silhouettes.
